Dungeon Name Generator

A good dungeon name is half the pitch. This forges names for the crawl, crypt, or ruin your party is about to regret entering — the kind of name that shows up on a tavern rumor board and empties the room.

Press the seal to draw your first names.

How to use it

Press the seal to draw a batch of names, each combining a structural word (crypt, vault, warren, keep) with a condition and, often, a specific theme phrase describing what's actually down there. Draw several at once and keep the ones that fit — the theme phrase is easy to drop if you want something shorter for a passing mention rather than a full dungeon crawl.

Tips for using a dungeon name well

  • Drop the theme phrase for a location your players will only hear about in passing — the shorter name reads more naturally in dialogue.
  • Keep the full name (with theme) for the dungeon they're actually about to enter, since it doubles as a hook.
  • A name that sounds slightly too specific ("of the Ash Serpent") often does more worldbuilding work than a generic one, even if you never explain it directly.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a good dungeon name?

A strong dungeon name usually implies a threat or a story before the party ever sets foot inside — a structure, a condition, and often a specific horror attached to it.

Can I generate a name without the theme phrase?

Some results are generated without a theme phrase for a shorter, punchier name — press the seal again if you want a different mix.

Is this generator only for D&D?

No, the names work for any tabletop system, video game level design, or fiction that needs a dungeon, crypt, or ruin name.
